Overview

About This Policy

Terestria is a professional mobile mapping application designed for field geospatial data collection — specifically for agricultural, environmental, and land survey needs. It is developed for specialized use with no advertising or commercial subscription model.

This policy explains every permission requested, the technical reason it is needed, and how data is managed and used. By using Terestria, you agree to the terms described in this document.

✅ Our Core Privacy Principles

Terestria does not collect analytics data, does not display ads, and does not sell or share user data with third parties for commercial purposes. All data collected during field surveys is stored exclusively on your device and is only transmitted to a server when you explicitly choose to push data.

📡

Location & GPS

ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION · ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION · BLUETOOTH

Access to device location is the core of Terestria's functionality as a field mapping application.

📍 Precise Location (Fine Location) Required

Required to display the user's position on the map and record coordinates for survey points, lines, and polygons. Without this permission the app's core functionality cannot operate.

Used forMap navigation, GPS point digitizing, track recording, photo geotagging
When activeDuring active mapping sessions
Data storageCoordinates saved locally on device only, never sent automatically
🛰️ External RTK GPS via TCP/IP (Emlid & compatible receivers) Optional

Terestria supports connection to geodetic RTK GPS receivers via TCP/IP network for sub-centimeter position accuracy. The connection is established through the GPS device's WiFi hotspot.

Triggered byUser selecting "RTK GPS" as the location provider
Data receivedNMEA / LLH (Lat/Lon/Height) stream from the receiver
Data storageRTK coordinates saved locally on device only

🔒 Location Data Stays on Your Device

All location data — whether from the phone's built-in GPS or an external RTK receiver — is stored exclusively on your device. It is never transmitted automatically. Coordinates are only sent to a server if you explicitly perform a manual data push (see Upload to Server).

⚙️

Background Process

FOREGROUND_SERVICE · ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION
🔄 Background Location Tracking Optional

When track recording is enabled, the app needs to continuously log GPS position even when not in the foreground. This allows surveyors to move across an area while the track is accurately recorded.

When activeOnly when user activates "Track Recording"
NotificationA persistent notification is always shown while tracking is running
User controlCan be stopped at any time from the notification or app menu
Data storageTrack data saved locally on device only
📤 Background Upload Optional

When the user initiates a data push, the upload process (including large photo files) can continue in the background so it is not interrupted if the user switches to another app.

When activeOnly during an upload process initiated by the user
NotificationUpload progress is displayed in the notification bar
Data sentOnly the project data selected by the user for upload

⚠️ No Hidden Background Activity

Terestria never runs background processes without the user's knowledge. Every background process is always accompanied by a visible notification and can be stopped at any time.

🔔

Notifications

POST_NOTIFICATIONS
🔔 System Notifications Required for Background

Used to display the status of background services, upload progress, and important conditions such as GPS signal loss or sync completion.

Types shownActive tracking status, upload progress, connection errors
Promotional notificationsNone — never sent
Third-party notificationsNone — never sent

Terestria does not send marketing, promotional, usage-reminder, or any irrelevant notifications. Notifications only appear when there is an active process that requires the user's awareness.

Camera & Media

CAMERA · READ_MEDIA_IMAGES
📷 Camera Access Required for Photos

Allows the user to take field photos that are automatically attached to the active map feature, complete with GPS coordinates and a timestamp.

Triggered byExplicit user action (tap the take photo button)
Photo metadataGPS coordinates, timestamp, linked feature ID
Data storageSaved locally on device in the project folder only
🖼️ Gallery / Media Access Optional

Users can choose existing photos from the gallery to attach to a map feature. This permission is only used when the user explicitly selects "Choose from Gallery".

Gallery access scopeOnly the specific file chosen by the user, not the full gallery
Data storageSelected photo copied to the project folder on device only

🔒 Photos Stay on Your Device

The app does not scan, read, or access the photo gallery without direct user action. Photos are never uploaded to a server without the user's explicit consent during a manual data push.

Local Data Storage

Offline-First by Design

All survey data is stored locally on the user's device. Terestria operates in offline-first mode — all core functions work without an internet connection.

Data stored locally includes: spatial geometry (point, line, polygon coordinates), attribute form values, field photos, project and layer configurations, basemap tiles cached for offline use, and NMEA logs from external GPS receivers (if enabled).

🔒 All Data Remains on Your Device Until You Push It

Every piece of data collected through Terestria — coordinates, attributes, photos, tracks — is stored exclusively on your device. None of this data leaves your device automatically or silently. The only time any data is transmitted is when you manually initiate an upload through the "Push Data" action (described in the next section). Local data can be deleted at any time via the project management menu.

☁️

Upload to Server

The Only Time Data Leaves Your Device

Terestria uses a manual push model. This is the only action that transmits data from your device to a server. No data is ever sent automatically in the background without your explicit action.

When you choose to push data, the application transmits the selected project's data — including geometry, attributes, and photos — to the server configured in the project settings. All transmissions use encrypted HTTPS connections.

The destination server is configured by the project administrator, not by Terestria itself. Terestria as an application does not store a copy of your survey data on the developer's server. Data flows only from your device to the server defined in your project configuration.

You have full visibility and control: you choose which project to push, review what will be sent, and confirm before any data leaves your device.

⚠️ Important: Server Responsibility

The destination server is managed by your organization or project administrator. Please ensure the target server meets your organization's data security and compliance requirements. Terestria is not responsible for the security practices of third-party servers.

Third Parties

SDKs & External Services

Terestria is designed to minimize dependency on third-party services. The app does not integrate analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or behavioral tracking tools of any kind.

Open-source mapping libraries are used for map rendering and offline GIS operations. These libraries do not transmit user data to their developers' servers.

If a paid TMS/WMS basemap provider is configured (such as Mapbox), tile requests will pass through that provider's servers in accordance with their terms of service. Users are responsible for the choice of basemap provider in their project configuration.

⚖️

User Rights

Full Control Over Your Data

Terestria users have full control over the data they collect, including the right to view all survey data stored on their device, delete any project and all its associated data at any time, revoke app permissions through system settings, stop any active tracking or upload process at any time, and request deletion of account credentials and any server-side data.

Permissions can be revoked at any time through Settings → Apps → Terestria → Permissions on your Android device. Revoking a specific permission disables the related feature but does not delete data already stored locally.
